Flight paths (dotted line meaning)

Hi
I have attached a screenshot of a flight path which is in green. Can someone explain the dotted lines flight path? Was it before NextGen was enabled? I am not sure if my screenshot can be attached, in anycase I see a dotted line in addition to the green line.

The dotted line indicates the aircraft was outside of ads-b coverage for that part of the flight. A solid line indicates its signals were reported to a station that is connected to flightaware.

A dotted blue line is the intended route based on the filed flight plan, The green is the actual route flown based on ADS-B. If you view the whole flight on FA and zoom in real close you will see both lines as the flight pretty much followed the filed plan.
