Declining "Cleared Direct to"

Hypothetical:

I file an IFR flight plan from Aiirport A to Airport B, with two intemediate waypoints. I have IFR capable GPS. Shortly after departing Airport A, ATC clears me direct to my destination airport which will save me some time and fuel but, for a few reasons, I want to continue with my original flight plan. Is there any reason why ATC would not approve me to continue with the original flt plan?

Try “I’d like to continue as per FPL” and see what the reply is. Could be lots of reasons why a route is denied or modified, so your question is very hypothetical.
