"Bad" Hexcodes

Yes, it is amazing to see the list grow when I pick up TIS-B.

Thanks for the different color that will help ID them on the map quickly!

obj,

I finally got around to installing dump1090-mutability on a new RPi B+. Based on my question above and your response, I am starting dump1090-mutability like this:

dump1090-mutability --net --net-sbs-port 30003 --quiet --phase-enhance --oversample --fix --gain -10 &

I am seeing aircraft on the dump map so it looks like it is working. I am using the cheesy RTL-SDR antenna for now, so I cannot see any TIS-B aircraft from KORD.

Question: When I “ls” my ~ directory, I do not see a dump1090-mutability directory like I see a dump1090 on my other RPi. Where is dump1090-mutability located?

Thanks!
Marty

It’s installed system-wide, so the binaries are in /usr/bin, the HTML/javascript are in /usr/share/dump1090-mutability, there are a few config files scattered in /etc.

You can list the files installed by any debian package with “dpkg -L” (note capital L):

$ dpkg -L dump1090-mutability
/.
/etc
/etc/lighttpd
/etc/lighttpd/conf-available
/etc/lighttpd/conf-available/89-dump1090.conf
/etc/logrotate.d
/etc/logrotate.d/dump1090-mutability
/etc/init.d
/etc/init.d/dump1090-mutability
/usr
/usr/share
/usr/share/dump1090-mutability
/usr/share/dump1090-mutability/config-template
/usr/share/dump1090-mutability/html
... etc ...

Thanks!
Marty

When I started this thread regarding certain hexcodes, the consensus was that the hexcodes of certain patterns that I was seeing were TIS-B reporting. Last week, I added a Perfect Vision amp to my attic RPi. My aircraft and position counts went up. I am occasionally now getting aircraft on the ground at KORD.

In addition to the ground aircraft, I am also getting these non-position reports with callsigns starting with C. See the image below of the hexcodes from my observations’ database. I have tried searching the web for some of these hexcodes to see if there is any other reference to them and have come up empty. Could these be vehicles on KORD?
