Airport Weather

I use FA to check for the active runways in my area, and also to identify aircract that fly overhead, as we’re located 6 or 7mi out form 19L KIAD.

It would be good to display the ACTUVE Rwy on you airport weather pages, and include a history of the active. We have traveled to KDCA to take photos of Rwy1 departures based on the weather and flights, only to arrive and find the active was Rwy19. Not so bad, but the more weather info, the better.

Hey Greg,

See discussions.flightaware.com/view … ive+runway for previous suggestions on how to determine active runways.

Thanks… but that’s the method I’m using now. Any wather maps that show wind contours? I didn’t see any on FA weather.

adds.aviationweather.gov/winds/ is the surface winds in a graphical sense. Down arrow near the top, you can get the bonus of winds aloft.

For IAD and DCA text forecast.weather.gov/obslocal.ph … fset=14400 should fit the bill. Click on the individual city for the historical winds.

Question… if you’re that close to KIAD, how about just calling the ATIS at the field? That should get you exactly what you’re looking for, plus any NOTAMs that any weather/METAR readout wouldn’t be able to show.

ATIS for KIAD is at 703-471-7127, as per Airnav.
