If it’s bigger…it’s better.:artificial_satellite:

Hi all,
Now we have dense network of satellites to track. But when it was first to detect SOS from airplane that suffered accident from space??May be it was in early 80’s(1982 may be).The first such satellite and also first to save life was the Russian Kosmos-1383. It happened that a Canadian aircraft had to make a force landing in a forested mountainous area in British Columbia. The pilot sent out an SOS.The Russian satellite was orbiting in that area and caught that signal. It immediately informed Ottawa and within hours rescue plane discovered the unfortunates. The lives of the wounded pilot and two passengers, who were quickly hospitalized was saved.
twenty days later a similar incident occurred with another Canadian aircraft and again Kosmos-1383 came to aid. ten days later the same satellite found three Americans whose catamaran had capsized in the Atlantic.
This is the apparatus aboard the Kosmos-1383 satellite.

I found this in a very old book, happy to share with you all :grinning:

Regards.
