Australia does normally have a switch at the power outlet but the plug does NOT normally have a fuse.

I was getting a bit pedantic.

The system wiring size is only dangerous if there is a break in the ring and if some Muppet adds an un-fused spur to the ring. (due to the then undersized cable being “protected” by a 32A breaker.

Maybe we have wandered off topic with this.

Speaking of switches at the plug, here in US, the morons from ASHRAE dictated that 50% of the receptacles in offices, computer rooms, conference rooms, etc, should be automatically switched off by motion sensors.
That, in US, can be done by turning off one of the two receptacles in a duplex receptacle (with the hot bridge removed). Everyone will learn soon not to plug their stuff in the “bad” receptacle.
Sadly this ridiculous stipulation (conformance with ASHRAE 90.1) gets added in more and more States “Energy” codes and becomes law.
