Pi cooling fan results

The Pi Hut is in the UK. Hurry up, only a few months left.

Purchased an RPi3 from them, good service.

Yes, I did not check properly, found a few others as well :+1:t2:

The PoE hat looks neat and if it fits your case, the fan is a nice touch, but for the (1) Pi I have on PoE, this ($6usd) adapter seems just as easy.

@geckoVN,
I have several like that, however, they don’t have enough power for an RPI 3B+.
They are fine for an RPI 3 and below.

I wonder what is going on?
The injector I use is rated 48V 0.5A
The splitter (as above) is rated 5V 2.4A
My 3B+ has been running on this setup since early May without any problem.

Are you using a single port injector or a PoE switch?
More importantly, does it claim 802.3af/at?

I tried with a switch and a direct PoD injector.
It could be that your units are a better quality of have better specs.

Passive heatsinking might be a good way to go.

The left Pi (Piaware 3.7.1) running at 42 degrees C
The right Pi (stretch running ACARSDECO and DUMPVDL2) 40 degrees C.
Simple cheap Walmart desk top fan for 10 bucks. Upper portion of pictures.

Haha! Now that’s how you add a fan.

One of my Pi’s runs hot over summer so I’ve mounted the case to a stand-off heatsink to isolate it from additional conducted heat.

That made me laugh.

I’m using a fan shim on the pi 4 I’m using as a NAS and server. It’s over clocked to 2GHz and the fan easily keeps temperatures under control even if I use it to transcode video.

The lower heat sink sits in liquid N2, right?

HaHa - nope, never taken cooling that seriously.
If I can keep the Pi under 60°C, I’ll be happy.

Nice rig. I just hot-glued one of these mini fans to my plastic case. I did make some more air vent holes.

-10C avg temp redux.

I’ve found it doesn’t take much active cooling to keep the temp civilised, so I use 12V fans and run them on 5V - this also keeps the noise down.
If you want the fan to be quiet and last a long time, the best I’ve found are the Sunon series with MagLev bearings.

I use Sunon MagLev. Great fans.

Right a 12v fan @ 5v will probably last longer. But my mini fan from adafruit is very quiet. So far so good! :crossed_fingers:

Even better as fall takes hold. Quiet as a mouse, I think, wait a minute …

No, that was a mouse.

Ultra quiet cooling fans can do wonderful things for the temperature of your Rpi computer. I have one that is positioned close to my full Rpi system and lowers the system temperature by approx. 10 degrees C. I have a fan recommendation if anyone is interested in the details.
