Are you using POE switches? What software are you using for you home automation. Do you have a preferred brand for IoT devices?
No PoE switches, just smart sensing switches that use power on only the ports in use. I don’t need PoE since all equipment is indoors except for the antennas.
For the home automation I use Domoticz combined with Zigbee devices and some KaKu devices with 2 separate receivers on 433 MHz. They are also connected to a private cloud solution (in my own house) in order to communicate with the voice control system that can be operated from every room in the house.
