The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for the pilot of an Alpine Air Express mail plane that crashed Monday morning approximately seven miles southeast of Lihue International Airport.

A 38-year-old male pilot, the only person aboard the plane, has been missing since his planes scheduled arrival time, 6:30 a.m. yesterday.

ASN report Link from above post.

Just a note on this accident, aircraft was following a Aloha B737, the tower was closed, (opens at 6AM).

The B737 approached at 1500’, the Beech 1900C was reported by FAA at 100’, over open ocean with 15’ swells, 7 miles from airport???

FAA from Honolulu, telephoned the Aloha pilot, to see if the Beech had landed. Apparently the Aloha pilot, mistook another Beech on the ground, and reported to the FAA that the aircraft had safely arrived.

Therefore, aircraft was not reported as missing, and nobody was looking for it!!!
