It’s interesting to watch, I know I’m not really seeing enhanced conditions because if I were, I’d be seeing the platforms in the North Sea but they’re not showing.
So in general, are you seeing your total positions getting a nice boost since you installed the 8P?
I think so, yes. It’s only been three days and I do actually think conditions have been enhanced a little bit (although not a huge amount as I’m not seeing the North Sea platforms) but today seems quite flat. I do think I’m seeing about a 10nm average range increase as well but time will tell.
It’s very early to be sure but have a shufti at these and see what you reckon. Note that my stats are visible to anyone so you can have a look yourself here.
Certainly looks like things are trending in a positive direction after the install. Your peaks appear fuller and more focused to me unless that is just a byproduct of signals related to weekend days vs work week signaling. Thanks for the feedback.
And who doesn’t like fuller and more focused peaks?
Wink, wink! Enjoy the ride.
Twin peaks ? I’m a little lost here
Nice @keithma!
The-higher-the-better always works, even if it’s a foot or three!
Hi. Just clicked on your “here” link and had a look at your 6 days of traces. Curious how your saturday/sunday traces are looking relatively flat and clean across the top, while the previous thursday/Friday and the following Monday/Tuesday are pretty torn up across the top of the traces. Have you a notion as to what is feeding on your signal on the week days?
Not really, no. There’s a discussion about these dips here where there’s some speculation but nothing solid. It’s not just me though, many people in the south east are seeing the same.
Something with nasty harmonics that allow it to ride the clean 1090mhz signal and cause it to be discarded by the input signal amplifier / filter.
My COL1090/9-PSE has arrived and is installed.
If you’re interested, here are the FA stats for that antenna, I’ll monitor the performance over the next few days. It replaced a COL1090/7.5-P ( also Vinnant) so lets see it it does better.
It’ll take a few days to see how things compare and I hope you do notice a difference. I find the Maxima graph is a really good way to tell.
Here’s mine for the last six months, I think it clearly shows the difference the combination of a new aerial and raising it another few feet.
Yes that will be my reference point as well. My environment isn’t as favorable as yours but we’ll see what it does.
It’s 1 foot higher then the previous antenna, I haven’t changed the gain yet ( it’s fixed) so tuning wil be a thing that might need attention after 24 hrs.
Good to hear Tom. Sit back, smoke a bowl and see how the new antenna performs. Are you packed for the vacation as yet?
Vacation starts on Saturday, packing needs to be done in 2 weeks, 3 weeks of vacation ahead, last week in Greece.
Good deal. 2 weeks to play with network switches and antennas! Enjoy!
well deserved vacation. Are flying to Greece yourself?
No I’ll just hop on the Transavia Boeing , so i can judge their performance
You are getting a quite noticeable improvement now there’s a week or so’s data. You can really see the improved RSSI and SNR in the airspy graphs, despite the lower gain setting being used. I’d be quite pleased with an improvement like that especially since your station was already performing very well.
