Airliners to Slow Down to Save Jet Fuel

Southwest Airlines started to fly slower extending each flight by several minutes to save jet fuel.

Comments?

Several other airlines have, also, according to the article I read. Makes sense to me. You’ re only talking about adding, for example, 8 minutes on a flight between the east coast and Europe yet is saves the airline thousands of dollars per aircraft per yer.

Hence the great love of FMS…

Example: I was on a Delta flight (757) from Seattle to Salt Lake City. Our best time altitude was FL370, best fuel FL384, so we cruised at FL390.
