the world record by eight pilots and 27 passengers and crew. 22 hours, 43 minutes and 13,422 miles in the air; Hong Kong to London (the jet flew across the northern Pacific Ocean before reaching North America, where it flew over Los Angeles, then slightly south of Chicago and over New York before cruising over the Atlantic Ocean to London), in the 777-200LR Worldliner. usatoday.com/travel/flights/ … cord_x.htm
Never flew it myself, but have spotted it from the ground 1/3 of the way to SIN over Oslo, Norway. At times it routes over here.
I guess the Singapore Airlines 021 is still the world’s longest nonstop flight. And the only one to fly on in the same direction (east) on its “return” flight! Carrying on in the same direction gives a new meaning to the “return-flight” consept.
18,5 hours seated would be at the health risk limit for some people. Therefore meals are not served at the seats, and passengers are encouraged to walk around and have their food at the galley. A layout of the aircraft is at the SIA website.
Hard to say which one was the longer, but putting the airport codes into the **Great Circle Mapper **gave me the following answer:
From To Distance
FRA (5001’35"N 0832’35"E) RIO (2254’S 4314’W) 5935 mi
BKK (1340’52"N 10044’50"E) ESSA (5939’07"N 1755’07"E) 5158 mi
LHR (5128’39"N 0027’41"W) CYVR (4911’38"N 12311’04"W) 4723 mi
BRU (5054’05"N 0429’04"E) DAR (0652’41"S 3912’09"E) 4484 mi
FRA (5001’35"N 0832’35"E) PEK (4004’48"N 11635’04"E) 4853 mi
Total: 25154 mi
May I suggest Flightaware starts using this great feature to get the filed flight plan laid out on map! All that’s needed is to have the Waypoints added to the GCM database. The ICAO/IATA-codes and NW-coordinates are already there. Try it out at http//gcm.krl2.com/. Just remember EWR-BKK for SIA21.
My longest nonstop flight was Istanbul to JFK, it was over 5000 miles and with headwinds it took or 13 hours. This was almost 10 years ago on Delta. They used to fly a 767ER
it was lax- sydney on UA, thankfully it was in first class on the going portion. the way back was in business and that was not “nearly as much fun as i thought it would be”, to quote a deceased playwright.
CYYZ-VHHH…Air Canada 345…in J class seats are just not worth the money and as far as I know AC is beginning to change out their 345’s for trips. beginning this summer…I would assume that the first ones will be put onto this route…new interior design layout for AC on the trips…thank you…there is a god above…Wich them luck with them…
