At what point do 737s not fly into high winds? Last week, Anchorage reported winds to be hurricane force, but it didn’t seem to affect flights.

The highest wind “gusts” reported over the last week have been 46 MPH, which is not near hurricane force, and a gust would be only a short term sort of thing. Maybe a local TV reporter got a bit excited.

I don’t know. It seems like gusts would be worse than constant high winds. Planes fly in the jet stream all the time where the winds are very strong. It is when winds are chaotic that there is a problem. Or when taking off or landing and the wind direction is not parallel to the runway.
