Effective Feb. 20, all flight operations to and from Quito, Ecuador, will relocate to the new Quito Mariscal Sucre International Airport (the airport code remains UIO).
The new location, in Tababela, is approximately 21 miles (35 km) from the Quito city center. The new airport has a 13,400-foot (4,100 meter) runway, which is 3,200 feet (1,000 meters) longer than the previous UIO runway, the altitude of the new airport is 1,300 feet (400 meters) lower than the previous airport. The airport will also include an expansive, two-story retail section with 11 restaurants, such as Starbucks, Häagen Dazs, Domino’s Pizza, Johnny Rockets and TGI Friday’s, more than 40 stores and a duty-free area.
This is news to me.
