Trixie and no more MicroSD card for me!

First a question, has anybody upgraded their RPi to the Trixie release and continue to run the Flightaware software? If so, anything I need to be aware of before doing so? Not sure if I’m going to upgrade my current running image or just simply re-install as new.

Secondly I had enough with MicroSD cards so I looked at netbooting my RPi and I have no removed (almost) the SD card from the RPi. the RPi 4 that I’m using should netboot without the use of any MicroSD card, however the USB (extension) hub I am using for whatever reason prevents netbooting so I ended up finding a small MicroSD card (512MB) and put only “bootcode.bin” in the card, with that the RPi boots up and mounts all of its partitions from a remote system via NFS.

The USB extension hub is a Lindy 42783 it is 40ft long (available on eBay for ~$25), the RPi sits in the basement and the hub and antennas sit in the attic, the SDRs are attached directly to the antennas with a 6ft USB A male to female cable (extension).

Now if I “blow up the RPi” I can fix it from anywhere, plus the machine serving the file systems to the RPi utilizes RAID to help protect against a disk failure.
