Tracked Planes are Always Miles Back

When tracking planes from FlightAware.com, the position is estimated when out of “radar”. When they enter my station’s range FA’s estimate is always still tens of miles back.

For example, traffic flying East out of Alaska radar is not tracked for 15 to 20 minutes yet when I pick it up the estimate still has it about 80 nm back. It seems the speed value in the algorithm is way too low. Any comments?

Here’s another issue. On a Windows laptop, when tracking all planes in an area, hovering the cursor over the icons is supposed to display data for that plane. But this works sporadically. Usually a nearby plane’s data appears even when the cursor is directly over my target and the other a centimeter or two away. Any other comments?
