Three planes over Los Angeles this evening

This isn’t my photo, but I saw the same sight tonight (7/10) - the planes first headed north of Los Angeles and then back towards LAX (though I don’t know if they took off or landed there.)

I don’t suspect anything nefarious - just curious what this was! The two larger planes were very close together and looked military - drab colors. The smaller plane was red. Any ideas?

Van Nuys, Chino and Camarillo have a large contingent of older WWII vintage airplanes based there, probably 3 buddies out for a formation flight.
