I have a basic account with flight aware to track my husband flights. For the last 3-6 months I have stopped receiving text alerts. Is this feature no longer available? I was unable to find a place to update my account to use this feature again.

They stopped the text alert feature a while back as you noticed.
For alerts, you can alert by e-mail to your primary FA e-mail account, a friend’s e-mail (any other e-mail you want), or with a Mobile Push: Android notification. When you set up an alert, these three options are at the bottom of the alert page. Obviously, the “ Share this alert with a friend” will work with any e-mail that is not the one associated with your FA account.
The Mobile Push:Android notification requires the FA Android app being installed. That would be the closest thing to the old text alerts if you are on Android. If you use Apple, I don’t believe they offer that.
For e-mail, you could always alert by e-mail and then tweak your e-mail client to use a special notification sound or setting so that you would notice one of those immediately when it arrived. That would work fairly well.
You mentioned that you have a basic account with FA. I’m not sure, but it might be that all these options are not offered with a basic account, but it’s worth taking a look. The options will show up on the alert setting page, not an account info page.
