Tar1090 -- improved webinterface for dump1090-fa and readsb

This morning i’ve identified an issue which is hard to describe.

Once you select an aircraft, the screen below the list appears where you can find more detailed information including a link to FA.

Normally the screen disappear if you unselect the aircraft or comes up with new information once you select a different aircraft.

Intermittently i’ve realized that sometimes the functionality does not work. You can select initally an aircraft, information shows up, but it does not disappear after unselecting the aircraft.
Also it’s not changing the information once a different one is selected.

To get the page back working, i need to reload.
Unfortunately it’s intermittent and not all the time. I’ve checked different browsers and also the original FA interface. It’s independent from the browser and the original interface doesn’t show this behavior

You’ll need to check for errors in the javascript / browser console.
F12 opens the tools and select console.

You can do that after the error has occured, it probably shows something i can hopefully fix.

OK, will check it.

Once i posted it, the error did not come up again… as usual :frowning:

I do get an error of the first time a plane is selected un-select
Happens every time sometimes after reload , after completed init, upon selecting a plane

console reports
unreachable code after return statement script.js:1835:1

from code lines in debugger 1834 to 1836
return; // this function is probably obsolete
if (!SelectedPlane || !SelectedPlane.marker) {
return;

but it does not really cause any issues

That’s not an actual error, but rather a hint.
Anyway, prefacing the return with if (true) avoids the message :slight_smile:

Select by aircraft type would be my choice. :slight_smile:

I’ll try a few edits tonight when I get home to that machine…

Thank you so much for doing this, much appreciated!

My “wish list”:

  1. Extra row in the label (I like to see Alt and Speed).
  2. Color aircraft by source? (ADSB/UAT/MLAT/Other). Fun to see what I’m picking up and to make the UAT stand out.

In any case, again, thank you for doing this, it looks and functions wonderfully.

Maybe a toggle to change the altitude coloring to type coloring for the aircraft icons?
The trail would stay altitude colored.

Making the label configurable is on the list.
Any configuration for that would probably be in the configuration file.

That would be great. Like the trail just the way it is. I played with the colors in the table to make the UAT aircraft stand out. Was just thinking out loud it would be nice to see that in the map display as well. But,not a “need”, just a wish!

I got a little confused about what color you were talking about
my uat a sort of a teal green in the table
the mlat and tis-b are a little hard to distinguish , both shades of yellow
there is a purple other… but I don’t know what means, no position info

With all apologies to Mr. Wiedehop f. I too felt the colors were a little too similar. I found the color code here:

sudo nano /usr/local/share/tar1090/html/style.css

LINE 224
.vPosition { background-color: #D5E6EC; }
.mlat { background-color: #D2BFDE; }
.uat { background-color: #FFC40D; }
.other { background-color: #DDDDDD; }
.tisb { background-color: #F7F9F9; }
.squawk7500 { font-weight: bold; background-color: #ff5555; }
.squawk7600 { font-weight: bold; background-color: #00ffff; }
.squawk7700 { font-weight: bold; background-color: #ffff00; }
.selected { background-color: #FDFEFE; }

(Colors above have been changed from the original)

I went to https://htmlcolorcodes.com/ to see what different colors would look like and find the corresponding Hex Code.

I’ve changed the colors anyway when changing how a selection is displayed.

This is done.

This is done as well.

The single letter buttons have tooltips to show you what they actually do.
Also you can press they key for the letter on the keyboard and it will perform the toggle.

Zooming and moving around can be done via the keyboard as well:
Q and E zoom out and in.
A and D move West and East.
W and S move North and South.

C clears the selection.
M toggles multiselect.
B toggles map brightness.
T selects all aircraft.
R selects a random aircraft that has recently sent a position.

So i’ve gone to very light colors.

But at least some people will like stronger colors, so:

After updating, you can modify this file:
/usr/local/share/tar1090/html/colors.css

It won’t be overwritten on updates.

When using multiSelect, the selected aircraft are displayed first in the table.
Now i just need to figure out a good way to enable/disable columns.

I played around with various textBaseline, textAlign and padding values but the only thing that fixed it was to change the font from Tahoma to Arial.

font: 'bold 12px arial',

Since i’m the only one reporting it I can live with it !! :slight_smile:

Yeah that makes sense.
Even for me the writing isn’t completely vertically centered in the background, but it’s ok.

Maybe i’ll try another font.

Oh and everyone that’s reading, i fixed a bug with filtering by altitude.
Was causing flights to vanish from the table due to an optimization i made.

Now the error with not responding on mouse actions came back. Map itself is working, but the information on the right pane about the flight is not changing and i cannot close the panel by clicking on “close”. It looks like static text without interaction.

Opening the console gives these errors if it’s something you can work with:

Note:
After waiting a while and doing other stuff in a different browser tab the functionality came back without reloading the page.

I think i fixed that one already.
If it happens again after updating, same procedure :slight_smile:

Edit: Hmm actually i don’t exactly know where that error comes from after looking closer at it.

I can catch the error but i don’t exactly know what the problem is.
Oh well most likely it won’t happen again after you updated.
(just changed something to catch the error)
Worst that will happen now is that a plane won’t be filtered when it should be.
Really can’t imagine why the filter would be null.

OK, thanks, will give it a try
