Today I photographed an RV7 (N726V) at KTTD. Flight Aware lists this tail number as a 172 at KHUM.

I don’t have any stake in this, but thought someone should know.
FA has the proper registration. That Vans you saw hasn’t been flown IFR recently if ever and the 172 was probably a number close to that and somebody (the pilot or controller) accidentally entered the wrong number a few months ago.
