Stratux ADS-B Dual Band Receiver

I brought the Stratux ADS-B Dual Band Receiver Aviation Weather and Traffic - Internal WAAS GPS, AHRS, Battery Pack, Suction Mount, Antennas, SDR sometime in May of this year and I noticed something…

I built a PiAware and using a RTL-SDR Blog V3 and a Bingfu Dual Band 978MHz 1090MHz 5dBi Magnetic Base SMA Male MCX Antenna and the FlightAware Band Pass Filter and Raspberry Pi 4 8gig.

The weird thing I noticed between the 2 is that the PiAware I built is receiving more 1090MHz Aircraft and Positions than my $400 Dollar Stratux ADS-B Dual Band Receiver,I brought the Stratux for the fun of it and didn’t know they had a different version of it at the time,Yes I know its suppose to be used in a Aircraft but too late for that lol,Do wish It would pick up weather and the towers but found out it has to be in the Aircraft and line of sight. I still like the device though.

I am using both receivers inside the Apartment at a window.

It just seems weird that the PiAware is doing a better job then the more expensive receiver. The PiAware picks up like 45 Aircraft and the Straus picks up maybe 10 or 15 during the day.

Just wondering if anyone else noticed this.

Just because it is expensive doesn’t mean it performs better :wink:
Earlier i’ve seen somewhere a Stratux opened and finally it was a Raspberry inside with some stuff (not the best one)

EDIT: Was in that video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08cHOg0nLms

Looks like the Stratux was built to be used in an aircraft or moving equipment, but not as a high performance local receiver.

Yea I know its suppose to be used in a Aircraft oh well lesson learned lol.

Your right btw about it being expensive and not being the best :frowning:

This is the one I have;
