Skies are empty in Tampa

In the Tampa Bay area Idalia storm surge of 5’ to 8’ is the main problem. Even so, all the airports are closed. There is a single airplane when I typically have more than 100 aircraft within 50 miles this time of day.

King Tide is in 2 hours then conditions improve. We are well prepared and very safe due to planning and years of experience. Thanks for your concern.

Air traffic is way down here in Central and East Coast Florida with the Hurricane pushing up the west coast this morning also. It was nice to not be in the bullseye of the storm this time around. Still have to get through the month of September before we can call out the all clear!

Traffic is down by about 2/3rds of normal in the Charleston, SC area (KCHS). All flights will be canceled at 6pm today. ATC will shut down also at 6pm. I have not seen any GA traffic at all today.

The eye of the tropical storm will pass very close to Charleston, but the winds will be more diminished than when the storm made landfall in Florida. I’m hoping for winds in the 40-50 mph or less.

Be Safe!!!
