The big tea party is in Searchlight Nv today and there is a VERY old Lear 24 flying in. I saw a sale flyer for it for $250K. Any guesses who it might be ? I hope Palin has a better ride than this ? N723JW
What’s wrong with a 1967 Lear? It’s not like it’s a long flight. It’s probably a lot less expensive to charter than a larger aircraft that would be flown half empty.
Market, sellers motivation and buyers need determine value/price. An old lear 24 will use a lot of fuel but for a buyer that fly little; the 2 million savings in buy in buys a lot of fuel.
Safety is a direct result of the operator philosophy, crew(s), training etc. A 35 million dollar Gulfstream can be much more dangerous than an old Lear if the wrong people are at the helm.
I have to mention that I rode in LearJet Serial Number 181, N273MC, years ago…Got to see the Comet Kahoutek…wait, maybe not that one…it was in the 90s…but the only time I’ve ever been in a Lear…great memories…tc
Two reasons for a light jet on this trip is, runway, taxiway and ramp load bearing weight issues at 1L3. Also most large charter aircraft owners refuse to spin up for anything less than two hours per leg. I know of a GV owner that wont let his aircraft charter for anything less then five hours per leg minimum.
Not necessarily. If they could get away with it they would fly in.
The difference between a capitalist and a tree hugging environmental Nazi liberal (THENL) is that a capitalist will justify the cost of an aircraft on its ability to allow more work to get done. The THENL will justify in the basis that his time and intellect is extremely important. It’s too important to be wasted on transportation means that are available to common folks. In other words, he’s saying you save the earth by retreating back to the 19th century. I’ll help save the earth by being the only passenger on a 10 seat aircraft that will fly me to your city to tell you to return to the 19th century.
If it has the GE CJ610 engines, then it sucks gas as fast as it can; 550lbs per engine at idle on the ground and the same at 41k, 1,900 lbs per engine on take off. That’s why those guys are asking for higher on the take off roll because of its thirst.

Clay Lacy still flies FlightAware N1965L Mr. Lacy picked this jet up in November 1964 and it became the first corporate jet based at Van Nuys!!! Serial number 012 , it was built as a Learjet 23, but upgraded to 24A.
I don’t think Mr. Lacy would part with this jet for any amount of money.
