Red Arrows - why not tracked?

The Reds are currently displaying at RIAT Fairford as I type this but are not showing on either FA or FR24.

I can see them (or the one Hawk that is transmitting ADS-B) quite clearly on ADSB-Exchange.

I do understand that ADSB-X is unfiltered and both FA & FR24 filter most military traffic but what is the logic of filtering a display team such as the Reds when the whole idea is to be seen by as many people as possible?

It’s not like it’s a U2 or anything.

Many years ago I emailed the Reds asking about ADSB to track the Team as they transit across the country to various shows and got a nice reply back saying they were going to implement this and looking at ADSB-X all these years later it appears they have so the Reds themselves seem to have no issue being tracked.

It would be good to set up an alert to be notified when they are up as often they transit the Daventry corridor which is at the bottom of my garden but if they are filtered obviously I can’t do that and it takes a lot of sleuthing across various sites to figure out if/when they will be passing and then I have to set a reminder or else I will forget!

Is there some logic to filtering a highly publicised display team or have I missed something fundamental here?

Thanks & kind regards,

There is a block list. They may have requested to be on it like many other military aircraft are or Flight Aware / FR24 just doesn’t have the coverage down that low at RAIT like ADSBEx or 360Radar. The latter has a receiver on site for the show for example.

Thanks for the reply ScotsSharer,

I understand there is a filter/block list but for a highly publicised Display Team like the Reds it seems self-defeating to be on a block list to me.

And I’m not that interested in coverage at low level at places like RIAT but more interested in catching them in transit from Scampton because they often overfly my house in Banbury as I am on the edge of the Daventry corridor.

Ah well just have to keep doing the long-handed research to know when they are due in my area then.

Thanks & kind regards,
