The status is “Arrived” but if you look at the flight log, the last radar contact is all that is listed - which is on or about the time it was reported missing.
I think saying it was shot down is a bit dramatic… could be another case of disorientation like JFK Jr, who went down in the same area.
Where’d you read that? I didn’t see anything in the linked article that would suggest it was shot down…
I read “down short” as “shot down.” 
I read it the same way the first time. One of those crazy optical illusions that plays with the mind, or, in my case, illiteracy.
