I was wondering if there is anyway to get PiAware working with my Kworld/Afatech DVB-T395U [af9015] stick. So far I get an error that dump1090
is not running, this is because there is not a RTL-SDL tuner. Any ideas? (I know I should buy that recommended tuner, but I just want to get this working just to get a feel for PiAware)
UPDATE: I’ve heard that I might be able to use ModeMixer2 to get this to work, but I have no idea how you would use it.

DVB dongles are not all equivalent for the purposes of receiving ADS-B. The RTL2832-based dongles can be put into a SDR mode which is pretty nonstandard and they’re not really designed for it, but enough has been worked out about the 2832 chip that they can be used for general purpose SDR work such as ADS-B. For other dongles you will need to build something equivalent. A quick google doesn’t turn anything up immediately obvious that’s already been built for your chip (only stuff that uses the DVB reception part, which isn’t useful for ADS-B). If it’s even capable of SDR at the right sort of frequency/bandwidth, you’re probably looking at a NDA for the datasheet / specs and a sizeable chunk of development work to get it working.
If you just want to get something working, buy another dongle that is RTL2832-based.
