PiAware 9 is now available

THANKS i solved the problem flashing again all my setup, gracias.

Thank you. I have added it to my toolbox.

That’s an Etcher / Windows interaction problem, not a PiAware problem.

I use the Pi Imager since it supports custom image files.

yes i use this software or Balena is the same but my sd card is broken again lolo

Is there any way to be able to load the piaware software or image on a usb device instead of spending money on micro SD memory sticks?

The card is damaged again, try this brand that is said to be good and is used by gamers’.

ANY REVIEW ABOUT IT?

If you have a Pi 4 you can boot from external USB devices, so you could use that either to run Pi OS and then install the software, or to run the PiAware image.

However there is no problem using SD cards. Go for a good quality, widely used brand such as SanDisk Ultra (eg like these), they are inexpensive. I’m still using the same card I set the site up with years ago.

If you’re consistently having problems with SD cards being damaged, I wonder about

  1. Your environment, and
  2. Your equipment.

SD cards have a lot of issues. They’re not as reliable as SSDs. They’re not intended to act as hard drives. That’s one limitation of the Raspberry Pi and other SBC systems. However, if you’re consistently having a problem with one every couple of weeks, then there’s something else going on. Even in an RPi running multiple feeders, SD cards should still last several years.

It could be your SD cards are of poor quality. This is unlikely, since most “discount” SD cards are manufactured on the same line in the same factories using mostly the same components, though many discount brands do try to use lower quality substrates or components that didn’t pass QA standards for the major brands and so they are more prone to failure.

If your system is in a poor environment (e.g. in an attic where it regularly overheats, or it’s been placed under a vent that has cold, condensing air), then your environment may be affecting your SD card, your RPi, or both.

And don’t discount the idea that your Pi is simply bad. Perhaps there’s something wrong with the bus that’s connected to the SD card reader (I’m not familiar enough with how RPis are designed to say which that would be). Or there could be a problem with the memory and so bad data gets repeatedly written to your SD card.

Start with the easiest (make sure the Pi is in a cool but dry location and safe from dust), then look at your SD cards and see if they’re of low quality. If you still have problems with high-quality SD cards, then you may want to invest in a new Raspberry Pi.

Yes, SanDisk Ultra cards! Never a single issue for many years and many platforms.

Some of the original TransFlash cards I bought 20 years ago are still in daily use. I’ve never had an SD card go bad.

Hi thanks for your comment, I’ve been doing this for several years and I have been lucky that no raspberry has been damaged and some sd’s are not damaged so quickly, I have several isolated cases and a few problems with version 9.0 of piaware (trying to fix it) with respect to SD cards I try to buy the best but are not always that good yesterday I bought 3 cards KINGSTONE 32 gigs 100MB/s R CLASS 10 I1A1 last night the same as the piaware version 8. 2 on the card I installed the 5 unique sites that I share my data with and they are working fine, however in my flightaware profile the station that gave me problems and that is working does not show data graph, it only shows offline and if it is operating. Attached images

Unused feeder numbers will expire after a certain period of time receiving no data. I think it’s 30 days. So don’t worry if you created a new feeder Id and then switched back to an old one. Flightaware will take care of it.

Use a large capacity SD card and expand the OS to use the whole card. The wear will spread over a larger area and not keep writing over a small area.

What is “large” in this context?
My local stockists usually don’t keep anything smaller than 16G now.

I have 3 Pis. Two of these use 8GB microSD cards since 2016 and one uses 16GB microsd card since 2019. All 3 are used for ADSB and feed multiple sites. None of these microSD cards have failed. :slightly_smiling_face:

I read this quite a while back and so I’ve used 32gb or larger.
