This also fixed it for me after updating piaware…Thanks!
Did you guys know PiAware 5.0 Image has a broken NTP Time Sync! I had a hard time to set it up via online tutorials…

#flightaware
I’m not aware of any NTP problems with the 5.0 image. What’s the problem you ran into?
Note that the piaware images include a full ntpd. Base Raspbian defaults to systemd-timesyncd which is somewhat more limited. You should use ntpq
to look at ntp status, not timedatectl
(timedatectl looks at systemd-timesyncd’s status, and that’s not in use on piaware images)
5.0 image here, no special config; it’s synced to a stratum 1 server to within about 0.5ms:
pi@piaware:~ $ ntpq -p
remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset jitter

I’ve two days ago run across issues with the ntp service just not working with zero explanation of why. (current raspbian i believe)
ntpdate would work without issues.
removing ntp and installing chrony instantly fixed the issue.
ntpd would say “soliciting” in the journal but never get any peers when checking with ntpq -p
My feeder has apparently upgraded itself to 5.0…
I’m still feeding all sites but I can’t connect to any of the services on the RPi.
Connection is refused, can’t view SkyAware, tar1090 or graphs or anything else.
Does anyone know why and how I solve this?
IP/skyaware/ will do the trick
Run tar1090 update will likely fix it. (lighttpd is hard to make work with multiple parties using the config stuff)
Once again, you’re the man!
