Pi 3 WIFI Antenna Connection Improvement

I have my antenna about 100 ft away from my router. When I lay the Pi horizontal, the wlan0 wifi connection shows a signal level of -75 dBm. When I position the board vertically with the GPIO pins on the top, the wifi signal level increases to -68 dBm.

This change is because the antenna is then vertical also and it has the same vertical polarization as most of the routers. The antenna is the small gray rectangle just next to the DISPLAY connector. As an antenna, the device is not that good, but it does work. Some people have made modifications and added an external wifi antenna that works much better. You can check the links below…
