Top image is what I have set up on Pi under VM with RTL-SDR V3 dongle, LNA , Flightaware filter and Cantenna.
The other image is the Pi Aware, Flightaware prostick plus into Flightaware Antenna.
The open dongle particially sticking out is the one I use for ACARS.

Now here another test of VM with Raspberry installed.Here is the scenario;
Second instance of Raspberry running on VM hosting DUMPVDL2 on a separate dongle. I have a strong presence of ACARS but VDL2 mode is more predominant. My V3 dongles are serialized.

How do I make changes to DUMP1090?
I think the gain settings are wrong on my set up plus I would like to be able to make changes to the options like the old days of the .bat file.
sudo nano /etc/default/dump1090-mutability
Scroll down to line starting with
Gain ="max"
Replace "max" by numeric gain value.

is that a pure raspbian VM (arm processor) or just debian with raspberry gui ?
i thought oracle does not support arm directly.
The Raspbian Jessie image is built for arm processor (RPi)
The Raspbian Jessie x86 is build for intel x86 / amd64 processor.
Both have Raspberry Pi GUI
Both are built on Debian Jessie, but customized for different CPU architecture.
The Raspberry Pi image has extension .img and wont install on VM or Intel machine HD.
The x86 image has extension .iso and installs on VM or Intel machine HD.
ok so the VM you made is ‘pure’ RPi ?
cause when i create it i only see linux and win choices but not arm.
Yes, I chose Debian 8 (or may be Debian Jessie)

Torrent will download same file as you directly downloaded.
In VM you have to choose Linux then Debian
well I have downloaded .img long ago could not find .iso so hoping this one is ok.
oh I see… so not 100% armhf. on the other hand i have a working, albeit slow, qemu vm
but cant hook external usb to it, in order to get the dongle working, neither can run modesmixer.

All taken care of. A full computer reboot fixed it.
Sometimes ejecting DVBT from Windows, then unplugging followed by replugging, then rebooting Jessie x86 also solves this problem.
