Optimising Gain

I will post an update when it’s installed… ty

Make sure you order the dark-blue filter. There are two types of Flightaware fliters.

(1) For Europe: Dark-blue, Band Pass Signal Filter,1090 MHz ONLY

(2) For North America: Light-blue Band Pass Signal Filter, DUAL 978-1090 MHz

Here’s a 48 hour graph…

And my gain graph…

Looks kinda like a cityscape on an Etch-a-sketch.

:joy:

(1) Your graph shows that your minimum gain is set to 33 by adaptive gain control. Messages > -3 dBFS (1.1% of messages) gives you a margin to increase adaptive-min-gain from 33 to 36 or even 39:

sudo piaware-config adaptive-min-gain 39

sudo reboot

(2) Can you please post your max range graph?

I’ll make that gain change and check in later.

Here’s a 48 hour range graph.

2.1% is good

EDIT:
You are still below 3%.
Try increasing minimum gain from 39 to 42

sudo piaware-config adaptive-min-gain 42

sudo reboot

(1) What is the make of your Antenna and Coax cable? You only mentioned “60 cm” antenna in an earlier post. Is it Flightaware antenna, or another make which looks similar to Flightaware?

(2) Can you please post the current screenshot like the one below which you have posted few days earlier?

the antenna and 1m RG-58 cable were from pi hut - same place that supplied the flightaware Pro stick plus and filter. don’t think the antenna is branded. flightaware antenna not available in the uk

would it be worth investing in RG-142 cable?

here’s the current tar1090 tracks

would this antenna have been a better bet. its similar money… but made by an enthusiast…

With coax being only 1m length, quality of coax does not matter much.

No idea about this antenna, may be good, may be lousy.

Many well experienced forum members (@wiedehopf , @foxhunter, and @caius)have recommende vinnant antenna.

Hi, I had that antenna and it broke letting in water, go with these instead E-SHOP (vinnant.sk)
