NASA’s Gulfstream III made some strange contrails over Northern California this week. Not often you see a full U-turn at altitude and it doesn’t make the news. I’m sure the “chemtrails” conspiracy nuts were having a field day but does anyone know what this bird actually does? I reached out to NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center who owns the bird and haven’t heard anything back. Secret Squirrel Stuff?
Pretty typical aerial recon/survey pattern for development/testing.
https://www.nasa.gov/centers/dryden/research/G-III/index.html lists a number of payloads they’ve flown in the past, easy to imagine how they map to the most recent flight.
