The pilot of a Mooney is lucky to be alive after his aircraft crashed into the icy waters of British Columbia’s Howe Sound Friday afternoon.
The plane flipped upside down when it hit close to the shoreline just after 14:30, and has come to rest just beneath the ocean surface.
A spokesperson from local Rescue Service said the lone occupant of the Mooney was picked up by a Scheduled West Coast Air Twin Otter, that was en route to Nanaimo.
Witnesses who saw the plane moments before the crash say it was flying at an ‘awkward’ angle. (Pilot was alone in the aircraft).
