KFXE is also a good option 30 min drive to Downtown Miami
Transients use both… But of those two, OPF would have home basing where MIA really doesn’t.
The majority of S. FL bizjet traffic use FLL, FXE, BCT, and PBI.
most of the business jets land at Opa Locka, Ft Lauderdale Executive and Kendall Tamiami… it depends on where they are going if they have a meeting in downtown miami they might go to Kendall Tamiami or Opa Locka… if they stay in Broward County then Ft Lauderdale Executive and even Ft Lauderdale International Airport… Miami has many choices of airports when it comes to business jets coming to south florida… it just depends on what and where the business person is going
Opa Locka can be interesting, but Miami is busy.

It’s all in the timing of an event Rob…
As BING images taken at a different time show less and different activity…

You can post your question directly to Bruce Drum (Mr. Miami), Bruce retired in 2007 with the title; Deputy Director of Operations (Retired) - for Miami Intl. Airport.
At the end Bruce was responsible for the operations, security and maintenance of Miami International Airport and the five general aviation airports. After a career of 30 years 7 months!
He has been taking photographs of all the airliners the entire 30 years!!!
Anyway, you can post a question to him and I’m sure he give you some personal insight, I might add, any security/airport people you may run into, Bruce Drum is a good name to know!!!
Very nice Rob…
If you don’t care about money, MIA is the closest airport to downtown\ South Beach area. If you don’t mind driving through the rough neighborhoods, OPF is MUCH cheaper. TMB is good if you are the Ocean Reef type, and can’t get into 07FA.
FXE is great for customs, FLL is a good location with nice long runways, and great FBO’s (I know Jason, FXE has a good FBO too )
BCT is a nice quiet airport for the Bentley guys. PBI is way up the road, and is more for the Madoff victims flavor.
AAANNNDD PHK is awesome if you are empty coming back from San Juan looking for cheap gas…
In my original question, I was referring to jets the size of Hawker 900’s/CL30’s and up.
Which one is closer to Miami?
MIA is closer to downtown Miami
Google Maps Opa Locka is just North of Miami Intl.
OPF dude…Palmetto is a “spit” away. (826 East) Itll turn south and merge w I95 …your basically damn near Downtown in a matter of minutes. Plus OPF can handle just about anything. (I was born and raised there, Hialeah). MIA is a pain in the ass, traffic in and around is always congested. Unless its 4 am.
He did ask which was closer, right?
Yeap He did. And MIA would be the answer relative to downtown, but closer isnt always better. But then again…its not me flying into that area.
Both airports are in Miami - Opa Locka is closest to North Miami, and MIA is closer to Downtown, mid- and South Miami.
I used to drive from the GA area at MIA to Opa Locka and it would only take 15 minutes. So the airports are very close together.
I think I’ll take any Miami airport !!!
Construction on the Dolphin Expressway- no longer a 15min drive…
so would most biz jet owners would use OPF b/c they can do away w/o paying for t/o & landing fees althought it’s slightly further from Miami?
Please, take some time to think about it and come back with one concise, lucid post with all your questions and concerns. TIA
