There is talk of JAL dropping their International routes, with ANA picking them up, switching alliances (OneWorld to SkyTeam, if bought by DAL), and more recently, the Japanese government in talks to bail out the airline.
Lots of questions to be asked. If DAL steps in and JAL switches, not only will this increase DAL/NWA’s Japanese presence (keep in mind NWA’s base at RJAA) by opening up to all of JAL’s domestic routes, but also with DAL’s having Fifth Freedoms rights in Japan (AAL does not, to my knowledge), that would allow JAL to sell tickets through any connecting DAL/NWA flight. This would potentially open up any DAL/NWA/KLM/AFR route to JAL.
There are a lot of ways this can go; however, from a passenger’s perspective, dropping all of their international routes would appear to be a serious blow.
In all honesty, some of the best news that the US has, comes from outside sources, and isn’t subject to the left wing/right wing spin that is now constant everywhere. Can’t watch/read Fox, can’t watch/read MSNBC… even CNN is centrist. NPR, the BBC, Al-Jazeera, The Age, SMH, and others tend to have more details and less spin than most US outlets combined.
That’s very true and I find myself searching for off-beat news sources of our news to read too, but somehow I seem to think al-jazeera would put their own spin on stories as well. Regardless, it’s always a good barometer as to how the rest of the world views us.
No one likes us-I don’t know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
But all around, even our old friends put us down
Let’s drop the big one and see what happens
We give them money-but are they grateful?
No, they’re spiteful and they’re hateful
They don’t respect us-so let’s surprise them
We’ll drop the big one and pulverize them
Asia’s crowded and Europe’s too old
Africa is far too hot
And Canada’s too cold
And South America stole our name
Let’s drop the big one
There’ll be no one left to blame us
We’ll save Australia
Don’t wanna hurt no kangaroo
We’ll build an All American amusement park there
They got surfin’, too
Boom goes London and boom Paris
More room for you and more room for me
And every city the whole world round
Will just be another American town
Oh, how peaceful it will be
We’ll set everybody free
You’ll wear a Japanese kimono babe
And there’ll be Italian shoes for me
They all hate us anyhow
So let’s drop the big one now
Let’s drop the big one now
