How to check if FAA actually has approved new airport

I live in central Texas, and there is a new proposed airport with an 8000 feet runway pretty close to my house. I have no problem with this but the developer might be somewhat questionable. The smalltown newspaper has reported that the FAA has already approved this guys plan.

How can I check the validity of that statement?

The airport would be located on approximately 2000 acres off FM969, near the Hyatt Lost Pines resort in Bastrop County, TX. Supposed to be a big business park as well. 8000 foot runway. Base leg going right over my house. I’m fine with it, and I’m hoping it gets built. I’d like to learn to fly there. The developer is James Carpenter of Carpenter and Associates.

This is the same developer that was trying to get “Villa Muse” a giant film community built in Texas and it fell through. Found his name on ripoffreport.com and it wasn’t a glowing review to say the least.

Anyone heard of this?

I haven’t heard of that project but I would bet that somebody in your local Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) would know something. Austin or San Antonio would be my guess.

This link here will show you all the Flight Standards District Offices and their phone numbers, e-mail, websites, etc.:

http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/field_offices/fsdo/index.cfm?state=TX&x=15&y=8

Hope it helps.

The San Antonio FSDO has jurisdiction in Austin & Bastrop.

Thanks, I sent them an email asking if they had approved the plan.

I realize this isn’t exactly national news. If it needs to be moved mods feel free. I found what I was looking for.

This is what’s great about the forum. People can get news about stuff that is not national in scope but is still very interesting. I would never have known about this had it not been brought up here.
