I know this subject has probably been covered. My apologies for bring it back up but my search didn’t recover the answer.
Is it as simple as adding a dongle and an antenna?
I used the terms ‘add uat’. There are multiple. So unsure why you find none
Naturally, yes. It needs additional hardware to side by side.
Yes, add an SDR dongle and an antenna and dump978-fa software. I think that’s all I had to do. 978 UAT aircraft will show up on the SkyAware map and on a separate 978 UAT SkyAware map. Your stats page will also start to show 978 UAT stats. Realize though, the number of aircraft on 978 is a small fraction of the number on 1090. (Like 1 to 2 %). Also at night there will probably be no 978 aircraft.
Edit to add: the SDR dongles need to be separately serialized and the configuration files for dump1090-fa and dump978-fa need to be compatible with the serialization. There are posts on here that document this also.
Contributing to the community is only partly why I got interesed in this. Being able to see what’s going on with GA at the FBO I fly out of is of great interest to me.
Thanks for the info.
I’m a dumb hick from LA (lower Alabama), currently on the high plains of Colorado, and I managed to join my 978 and 1090 receivers a couple of months ago.
It’s only 2-3 lines of code, and once you have all the hardware in place, it goes pretty quick.
Basically you instruct your 978 receiver to send it’s data to your 1090 and you’re good to go.
If you can’t find the instructions, hollar back and we’ll figure it out.
