Google analytics issue

Hello,
The flightaware page as of yesterday evening has been unable to load properly for me. The site loads, and then receives a 404 from google analytics. The offending file is “abc.js” This is reproducible from multiple browsers/OSes/ISPs/DNS Servers in the Northwest USA. Here is the header information from the error:

Request URL:http://www.google-analytics.com/abc.js
Request Method:GET
Status Code:404 Not Found
Request Headers
Accept:/
Referer:http://flightaware.com/
User-Agent:Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_8; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0 Safari/533.16
Response Headers
Content-Length:1258
Content-Type:text/html
Date:Thu, 08 Jul 2010 06:45:36 GMT

X-Xss-Protection:0

At this point, the page does not fail gracefully, but returns a completely blank white page. I do not know if this is a problem with google or your analytics code, but even with a 404, it should fail gracefully.

Blocking google-analytics.com or disabling javascript solves the problem.

I googled for this problem and it’s suggested to be a macos trojan:

google.pl/support/forum/p/Go … 4f5f&hl=en

Yeah, this can be caused by a DNS hijacking trojan, but the problem shows up across multiple clean machines/OSes. The DNS resolves, google just returns a 404 for that one instance.

Edit: the site is now properly requesting /ga.js
