Gimli Glider - 30 years later

It was in Squawks. I think it needs posting here for more coverage. Many are not familiar with this story. It’s a compelling read/watch:

The Gimli Glider has probably been the key story used in “fear of flying courses” as a means to sooth the nerves of anxious flyers.

The story has it all—a great ending—how small chinks in the accident chain can grow to cause horrific consequences.

My favorite part (aside from the happy ending) is when the “runway” was an active race event.

The pilots use of manipulating the controls to rapidly sink the plane just prior to touchdown was brilliant.

The plane went on to be used in service for a full useful life and it was retired not too long ago.
