Perhaps I am phrasing my search query incorrectly, but I can’t find this in the FAQ. But when I look at the airport overview data, some runways are reported as “excellent”, some “good” and some only “fair”. I have yet to find one that says “poor”. But who determines and from where does Flightaware get the runway condition report? Is this the result of an FAA survey, the airport operator, who?
I don’t know who determines it, but it’s published by the FAA’s Aeronautical Information Division (ATA-100).
FAA inspects runways at public use airports.
Reference that follows kinda old on definitions of good, fair and poor conditions can be found at bts.gov/publications/transpo … tions.html
