I know there is a map that has dots representing receivers. You can click the dots to see whose receiver that is. However, in areas where the dots overlap even at the highest zoom level of the map, some receivers apparently are obscured by others. Is there a feature somewhere that I can query a specific receiver to find out their location? I suppose I could figure it out by doing my own multilateration using published recent trip data, but it seems like there should be an easier way.
As far as that goes, how about contacting a person with a receiver who has no posts. Is there a way to do that? I’ve communicated with a couple of my neighbors directly, but I think it’s only been people who have posted to the discussion area.
Exactly. Which presumes the position is visible on the map. The ones I’m speaking of are not, because they’re covered by others. If we could zoom further in to the map, it would be a non-issue. But we can’t.
You could click on one of the users’ ADSB stats. Then from there, on that page I think you’ll see other nearby receivers to them. Exact lat/long are likely to be incorrect [on purpose] but it should allow you to see who is close to one of the ones that you click on.
Of course, all this depends on just how fuzzy somebody wants to be with their published location. I think the choices were 1 km and 10 km. 10 km is a pretty big value.
UI aside, how do you think your browser knows where to put the pin? You have this data, overlap or no. I don’t understand what you want to do with the data given that it is fuzzed.
Good point about having the data. I could poke around in the source code. Mostly, I was wondering if I was missing a feature of the UI somewhere. Apparently, I’m not.
