So I’m one of those dorks who runs inside after a plane flies really low over my house to find out who it was and where they’re going. I do this the same way everybody else does, pull up the local airport, look at the map and punch the flight number in the sidebar of Flightaware. However, there are often so many planes on the map, that the number of the plane i care about is not shown. An interactive map with a zoom feature is one possible solution, but that seems like a lot of work. What about mouse-over labels?? Maybe I’m just ignorant and there’s a better way to do this?
In the works. I don’t have time right now to do the search but if you use the “search” link at the top of the page (use map and/or zoom for search terms), you can find previous discussions on this topic.
Dorks? Are there any dorks here??? Nah!
I personally prefer the term “geek” to dork or nerd.
Mouseover labels and pan/zoom are in the works.
I prefer a mix of the two. DWEEB if you please.
It’s great to see that this is one of those sites where the users are heard. And you’re right, it is a geek site.
Geek is the prefered nomenclature:
