The 900 or even almost 1000 nmi was a receiver in a high rise building in Calcutta overlooking the bay of bengal.
Not sure the maximum i’ve seen in Europe.
You can get tropo on the US west coast, but it’s generally limited to bodies of water and certain weather conditions.
So I installed @wiedehopf’s fantastic 1090 graphs. That’s very cool stuff. What would I be looking for amongst that content to see if I’ve got excessive interference? For example, here’s my signal level plot, past 24 hours:
That would be visible in the noise level. That seems to be pretty stable so I would look at your gain settings and the percentage of strong messages.
That should be less then 5% ideally but that can differ per location. Being near an approach or major airfield that could rise to 10%.
Well the new antenna is on order, should arrive on Monday according to FedEx. In the meantime, does anyone know what these entries are?
Seems like some sort of network of transmitters at PDX. This comes and goes occasionally throughout the day, never really sticks around for more than ten minutes or so.
I like a lot of the DIY options that people mentioned upthread, but as I’m not physically in Portland it’s a little hard for me to put one of those together and test it out. Maybe I can get a second setup for Bend and try one of those out.
Hopefully that will work out for you and get you on the right track. Not familiar with that particular antenna but I believe someone put you on to that one with a recommendation.
I do not have Adsbexcnge antenna. I only have Flightaware antenna. As such I cannot tell which one is better.
I can only tell about Flightaware antenna, which I purchased in 2016 and am very satisfied with it.
It seems seeing the photos of internals of Adsbexchange & Flightaware antennas, you got the impression that I have got both these antennas, and I opened these and took the photos.
Actually I downloade these photos couple of years ago from internet (reddit). These photos are no more available there.
