Cowardly Lion

Can anyone tell me why the Cowardly Lion from “The Wizard of Oz” is on the tail of Alaska Airlines planes?

You need glasses.

It’s an Inuit (Eskimo) in an anorak.

It’s an Eskimo (see below).

The lei shown in the picture are on the 737-800’s. These are the aircraft certified to fly to Hawaii.

The Eskimo has been on the tail of Alaska Airlines since the 1980’s. The original logo didn’t have the Eskimo smiling.

History of the logo by Larry Leonard, the creator of it.

In Alaska, is it “Eskimo” or “Inuit”?

In Alaska, the term Eskimo is commonly used, because it includes both Yupik and Inupiat, while Inuit is not accepted as a collective term or even specifically used for Inupiat (who technically are Inuit). No universal replacement term for Eskimo, inclusive of all Inuit and Yupik people, is accepted across the geographical area inhabited by the Inuit and Yupik peoples

Too funny

You know what it takes to post a question like that…*COURAGE! *
