Corporate Express Airlines ceases operation

Calgary, Alberta based Corporate Express Airlines ceased operations on June 18, 2009.

Corporate Express or “Corpac” flew 11 flights a week between Calgary (CYYC) and Fort McMurray (CYMM) serving companies and individuals involved in development of the oilsands near Fort McMurray. Corporate Express had been flying the route since 1998. The company had been in business for more than 30 years.

It’s tough to compete when a bunch of larger airlines move in on your routes.

Yes it is and Air Canada Jazz seemed to specifically target their schedule to undermine the established schedule that Corporate Express Airlines had pioneered between the two cities. Most recently they placed a 75 seat CRJ-705 versus Corporate’s evening flight which really seemed to sap off more of the regular clientele.

So sad when a small company makes it for years only to be crushed in such short order.

It wasn’t because of Jazz or other competition. It was because the new owners (2005) didn’t know jack!
