NPR ran this story a couple days ago (audio of the story included) about a controller who coached a student pilot down after failed attempts to land before.
IMHO, this is what it’s all about. Great calm, patient, helpful controller (a pilot himself) helping out someone who needed it. Kinda hard not to tear up reading the transcript or listening to the clip. Enjoy.
