I made a cantenna, and it seems to be running pretty ok, getting around 18 planes at around 100 NM.
Now, I had just 50 ohm coax laying around, but it seems I need 75 ohm coax.
Will that affect reception positive, or is that hardly noticable
The loss due to impermanence mismatch in fairly insignificant compared with the improvement you could get with a gain antenna.
