Any interesting trends from Covid-19

Done  And now I know there’s a new Airspy client, that’s nice to know (too bad now is a pretty useless time to test it performance-wise heh)

We had a protest at the state capital by people upset about covid quarantine rules in effect. One state police chopper and a news chopper were making opposing orbits with 1000’ separation. The straight segments were just when I was in other apps on the tablet during the show.

Been seeing multiple batches of 2-3 Thai Lion Air planes flying from Bangkok to Jakarta this evening. Most likely gearing up to resume flights on May 1st like they’re planning.

Today will be the busiest day for my receiver for the last three weeks. 609 aircraft so far and still one hour to go.
But today they were some F-16 testing inflight fueling with a KC-135 across Ramstein AFB.

Antonov An-225 Mriya flies very often

another day to get the tanks filled…

another day to do survey work

This shows it is owned by a company that suspiciously looks like a surveyor. LANDSUR PTY LTD

Beautiful, sunny autumnal day with 23 aircraft in view but only one commercial passenger plane.

yesterday my receiver caught the most traffic for the last 30 days.
Interesting is that ADS-B traffic was normal, but the amount of MLAT and Other has been increased rapidly

That’s what i am expecting again over the weekend. We have lots of private aircraft and glider here in that area which are doing some weekend fun in such weather conditions

The lowest traffic yet in this area. GA aircraft seem to have declined this week.

leisure flights have started already here…
together with some fighter jets

Lucky shot. AirBridge Cargo approaching Frankfurt International (EDDF). Not very common.
Altitude approx 10.000 feet

I’m going to guess you have a nice lens.

300 mm focal length on a DSLR. But the weather conditions weren’t that good. Sun from the front left with some haze, but Adobe did a good job

I would love to know what was happening on Thursday and Friday because traffic levels were well up compared to the last few weeks but back down to the current abnormally low level yesterday and today.

Overnight, I even went down to just one aircraft heard in a period, that’s never happened here before.

Just checking my station after a power outage. Had this flight taken a different approach, I would have ran outside with my 300 mm and tried to match you.

i have several flights during the day passing my home as the one above as long as we have wind from east which forces the aircraft approaching Frankfurt from west.

With this low traffic due to COVID-19 the aircraft going straight without an extra holding pattern.

Normally the traffic is low over the weekend, but today and yesterday there were lots of leisure aircraft in the airspace. Thursday and Friday was a little more busy with Cargo

We’ve got a city here (Grants, NM, USA) where the mayor has decided to defy the governor’s quarantine order, reopen, and is calling on the police and sheriffs to defend the city from state police who are being sent in to shut down and possibly arrest those who break the quarantine.

Waiting for news, police, state police, and National Guard helicopters to all start launching but nothing visible yet.

It may fizzle. It may blow up. The mayor has been seeking publicity and has staked his position pretty hard. Might see us on the news today.

The local airport for Grants is KGNT. https://flightaware.com/live/airport/KGNT

Still nothing that appears related and it’s 10AM local time. Even the quiet is interesting given the circumstances. I would still expect local news helicopters but not seeing them.

Most of the response was on ground. The mayor didn’t get all the publicity he wanted and some businesses that tried to open got citations. Nothing notable for air activity.

Kingsday in the Netherlands

It seems so odd that since early March I have watched my total aircraft/day drop from 800-1,000 to 300-400, while at the same time my position in the rankings has improved by ~3500 spots.

I would have assumed that most stations would have taken a comparable hit as a percentage of their totals.
