Hi,
Just installed recently a pi 4 with latest bullseye version.
the use of :
the file userconf.txt
with user:password as explained
works like a charm

By using their latest Raspberry image you can select any user/password you want. It also allows you to configure the WiFi network if required

The option was already there “hidden” in the previous version, but not it’s enabled by default to use it
