Aircraft Worth Following

Ask all those GA owners with their A/C tied down at KDCA about this.

Been closed to GA since 9/11 or thereabouts if I recall.

Well, DCA is sort of an exception. I was trying to dispel the myth about GA about large airports. Actually, though, GA can fly into DCA if they meet a handful of burdensome TSA security requirements although I sense they are being eased. That said, I don’t think any single-engine piston aircraft have flown in or out of KDCA since 9/11.

The nearest airport is KDFW, which I believe is closed to the smaller planes of general aviation.

I thought I had read that on one of the several aviation sites I visit, but I have to confess that I can’t find it now - and not from lack of looking for it.

Radio talk show host Neal Boortz flies N750DB, based at PDK.

Neal’s wife (I believe) is named Debbie, and he broadcasts from WSB, Atlanta (750 AM). That is where the tail number comes from, according to Boortz. “750 gives me the money, and DB gives me the permission.”

I’d like to know the tail number of Rush Limbaugh’s Gulfstream.

The TSA (Terminally Stupid Administration) has the following rules for flying a coroprate aircraft into DCA:

on-board security officer - hired at your expense
stop for security screening at one of 12 gateway airports
TSA approval for each flight, crew member, and passenger

Currently only a corporate operator (TSA definition: paid flight crew, operations manual, recurrent flight crew training) are allowed. The TSA has said it will “consider” other GA aircraft (owner-flown, non-corporate, etc). but only after the current program has been in place for one year.

Eclipse Aviation’s new VLJ (Very Light Jet), N506EA, on a publicity and demonstration tour. At KMEM now.

N506EA linky

Eclipse 500 jets have been hard to find… I’ve looked every time they go to an airport but this is the first I’ve seen of any of them (N500EA through N506EA except N501EA).

I found out about it only through an EA ad I saw in the Wall Street Journal. Had the schedule of stops, and a picture of N504EA.

It is N1EB (Excellence in Broadcasting)

Which unfortuately is a blocked tail number.

For a photo of Rush’s Gulfstream, go to:

Used to be registered as N422ML

N88DJ comes up as Dale Jarrett Inc.

Has anyone seen Southwest Airlines’ new “Slam Dunk One”? A fantastic color scheme.

To track this plane, however, you need the SWA flight number. Tail number won’t work.

Hate to turn this into a slam TSA thread, but it doesn’t stop there. I work for Air Wisconsin in TVC. Sometimes we’ll bring our crew back through the bag room to the aircraft. Sometimes TSA just goes nuts about that. Then of course if we want to go to the gate past security, without going outside, they force us to go through security. Riiiight, you are concerned about a crew or us bringing something on the aircraft. It’s truely stupid.

Is “CLEVELAND BROWNS TRANSPORTATION”, anybody going to a football game?

Quite a short flight, too.

N85CL: The Dassault Mystre 50 is not a large enough plane to be used for team transport. That plane is the top photo on http://www.flugzeugbilder.de/search4.cgi?srch=kevin+palmer&stype=name&srng=2

If you scroll lower on that URL page, you’ll find a photo of the Washington Redskins plane. “N904DS New global express carries washington redskins logo on the tail” That aircraft is blocked on Flightaware, but is shown as belonging to “DSWA LLC (DULLES VA)”. It also looks too small for team transport.
